| | Description:We invite your child to join us in celebrating over 40 years of summer day camp programming. Originally, we created Nature Day Camp for children who are curious about the natural world and who love to learn through exploration. Today, we are continuing the NBS tradition of summer fun through natural learning. Established under the will of Mabel Norman Cerio in 1949, the Norman Bird Sanctuary constitutes the largest area of preserved open space in Newport County. A wildlife refuge encompassing over 300 acres and 7 miles of trails that wind through a diversity of habitats. Nearly 30 acres are maintained as grasslands. Woodlands are the most prominent plant community and four ridges provide spectacular views of the surrounding ocean and ponds. Visitors check in at the visitor center in our 19th century barn. The Sanctuary's barn also offers educational trailside exhibits and a gift shop for browsing. The Sanctuary has quite an interesting history from Native American to modern times. | |
